POPP introduces HEROair bold-colored outdoor table tennis

Australian design company, POPP, has developed the HEROair, an outdoor table tennis engineered for durability and accessibility in public spaces. Expanding on the company’s previous HERO and ICON models, the HEROair maintains a strong design identity while introducing improvements in materiality, assembly, and transport efficiency.

Designed for global distribution, the table features a flat-pack system that simplifies delivery and installation, enabling placement in diverse environments, from urban rooftops to remote communities. Its structure is composed of aluminum, chosen for its strength, lightweight properties, and infinite recyclability. Robotic welding ensures precision and consistency in production, enhancing overall durability.

HEROair is finished with a custom matte yellow powder coat

The design follows the form of the original HERO table while incorporating features for improved usability. The playing surface is finished with a custom matte yellow powder coat, applied with a light sandstone texture to minimize glare and optimize ball spin. Integrated ball and racquet holders reduce barriers to play, supporting spontaneous use in public settings.

POPP’s outdoor table tennis design prioritizes bold shapes and vibrant colors to create visual impact and encourage interaction. The HEROair continues this approach, serving as both a recreational fixture and a piece of urban design. In collaboration with local artists, certain models incorporate ‘playable art’ elements, reinforcing a sense of place and community identity. The HEROair is designed for long-term outdoor use in parks, plazas, schools, universities, and commercial precincts, supporting accessible and inclusive recreation in public spaces.
