Emergency glasses for myopic people in times of disasters

Three Days to See is a pair of emergency glasses that help myopic users look around clearly in times of disasters. The smart device uses quick diopter adjustment, which is similar to the ones found in binoculars and rifle scopes. It changes the focus of the eyewear and matches it to the users’ eye lens grade. The emergency glasses have this feature, dubbed necessary, especially in times of natural disasters and dark, foggy, and misty environments.

On the side of the eyewear, the users find ‘buttons’ or sacs. There are four of them, all of which have highly refractive silicone oil in them. They’re soft to touch, and they’re the ones that trigger the lens-grade change. The emergency glasses themselves have soft liquid lenses. When users press one of the sacs, the diopter adjustment in the eyewear shifts to that number. The design team has yet to explain how the switch of the lenses occur, in this case.

The events that the design team thinks of include fires, earthquakes, and wars. In these scenarios, the surroundings brim with dust, smoke, and flames that can cloud people’s vision. First-aid responders can find it difficult to look around, hence the birth of the concept of emergency glasses, a Red Dot Winner 2024. The eyewear’s soft inner surface also has a concave shape to make sure it has a high diopter. It also allows for an easier lens-grade switch. The diopter installed can adjust the emergency glasses in five increments, depending on the needs of the users.

The eyewear, which forms part of emergency kits, also has a clean style. The team opts for a semi-transparent color around the frames. For increased visibility, the sacs with silicone oil have a bright orange palette. Even the bridge above the frame as well as the nose pads share the same vivid color so people can see the wearer immediately. So far, the emergency eyeglasses are still a concept project. The design team of the eyewear comprises Song Zetong, Deng Chenxi, Fan Yichen, Luo Yutong, Du ChenChen, Gu Minde, Wang Wenchao, Fan Mingxiao, and Shi Junjun.
