opera air browser includes mindfulness tools

Opera introduces Opera Air, a browser that integrates mindfulness tools to help users take a break while they’re on the internet. It comes with breathing exercises, binaural beats, and positive affirmations and quotes. They’re on the Opera Air browser itself, embedded as buttons and features. The design relates to the theme of mindfulness, too. The Opera team curates a minimalist, semi-transparent setting and frosted glass UI. The background adapts to the color and style of the website the users are on to make it easier for them to read.

On the Opera Air browser, users find a sidebar. This is the ‘Take a Break’ space, the buttons for the breathing exercises, meditation, and full-body scans. When users click on them, the browser shows them guided instructions on how to do what they’ve chosen. There are voice narrations present – named Emma or Alex – that tell what to do. Users can also choose how long they want to do the meditation or breathing exercise. Opera says they can access the feature on the browser using keyboard shortcuts, Ctrl + K or Cmd + K.

Binaural beats and positive affirmations while browsing

Aside from the breathing exercises and guided meditations, the Opera Air browser also has binaural beats. These are the auditory techniques that play two slightly different frequencies in each ear. They are thought of to help users relax or focus as the brain picks up a ‘third’ frequency that can induce mental states. Because of this, the team adds Creativity Boost, Energized Focus, or even one for stress relief called Deep Relaxation to the Opera Air browser.

In this case, users choose from and adjust the type of ambient or binaural music to listen to as they browse, work, and use the internet. The team also creates a feature called Speed Dial, the home to the positive affirmations and quotes. When users go to the main screen of the Opera Air browser, they immediately see these mindfulness-based words and quotes. For example, there’s a L.R. Knost quote that says ‘taking care of yourself doesn’t mean ‘me first,’ it means me too.’ Users can always shuffle the quotes they see or deactivate them, if they want.
