serenay sarikaya’s house is a sleek study in contrasts

The new home of Turkish actress Serenay Sarikaya in Ortaköy is conceived as a study in contrasts, balancing openness with intimacy, and modernist geometries with organic finishes. Istanbul-based studio SANAYI313 has realized a safe haven from the actresses’ fast-paced lifestyle, with the design an extension of her independent individuality which is prevalent across the fluid yet cozy circulation, the tactile material finishes, and the sculptural statements.

Set within a modernist complex on the European side of the Bosphorus, the two-story residence is conceptualized as two interwoven volumes, leveraging the duplex’s dual entrances to create distinct yet connected spaces with varying degrees of privacy. The interiors embraces open plan living with expansive double-height volumes, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that frame panoramic views of the waters and the cityscape.

sanayi313 introduces touches of warmth to industrial finishes

The intimate yet dramatic design language of the interiors is defined by striking contrasts. Glossy black flooring runs throughout the home, reflecting natural light and enhancing the depth of the spaces, while textured gray walls add a tactile, moody quality. With ash wood veneer, SANAYI313 introduces warmth to balance the industrial edge with a softer material palette, igniting an inviting interplay of elements — shiny against matte, natural against sensual.

On the lower ground floor, the interior design studio carves out an uninterrupted private sanctuary much needed given the actresses’ lifestyle in the public eye. The open-plan layout features a living room, kitchen, and master suite that all merge into one seamlessly. Floor-to-ceiling curtains act as flexible space dividers, maintaining fluidity while ensuring privacy, as a sunken courtyard anchors this level, introducing greenery and daylight into the interiors. A bold, double-sided sofa upholstered entirely in leopard print is an eye-catching focal point at the center of the living room — a detail that reinforces Serenay Sarikaya’s fearless sense of style. Nearby, a Serge Mouille three-arm wall light casts moody illumination over the space. The adjacent kitchen takes a minimalist approach with custom stainless steel cabinetry and brown leather barstools injecting an understated elegance.

The master bedroom follows a similarly striking approach. SANAYI313 introduces a low platform bed against a sculptural monolithic bathtub, hewn from a single piece of rock. This centerpiece, surrounded by lush potted plants, evokes the serenity of a spa, further enhanced by an ensuite bathroom enclosed in frosted glass. A custom solid oak vanity contrasts the predominantly black and gray palette, infusing additional warmth.

Continuing the home’s exploration of materiality and detail, the upper floor features a generously proportioned dressing room featuring custom storage units in ash wood veneer with black patent leather interiors. A hidden kitchenette is cleverly concealed within one of the cabinets, while a custom burnt oakwood table and an MR Chair by Mies van der Rohe lend an air of understated sophistication. A secret door leads from the dressing room to the guest bedroom, where an angled bed arrangement capitalizes on views of the adjacent patio. In the guest ensuite, basalt stone defines both the bespoke sink and shower backdrop, reinforcing the material-driven aesthetic that runs throughout the home. The powder room on this level features an Agape Vieques freestanding washbasin positioned in front of a three-panel tailor’s mirror, adding an element of theatricality to the space.
